Taking Care of ALL Your Bodies

It’s a solo episode with Jen today, talking about taking care of all your various bodies - physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and your ‘quintessence’. Checking in with each of your bodies on a daily basis can lead to better decision-making, higher emotional intelligence, and improved relationship with self, and with others. Jen talks about the signs that you may not be seeing around tuning into your various bodies, as well as how to honor each of them on a daily basis.

Questions for further guidance:

●      Five Minute Daily Practice: Use the following questions/phrase structure to check in with your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual bodies. I like to use an oracle deck to connect with my quintessence for guidance.

○      “Today my ______ body feels ________. It needs _______ and __________.

○      Eg. “Today my physical body feels lively and rested. It needs more water and to balance activity with rest and reflection.

○      Quintessence: I use an oracle card to guide me to my ‘higher-self’ needs. Today’s card for me was “Release”. So I asked myself what I need to release so that I can grow.

Together, we unite physical, mental, emotional and spiritual

Jane Stark:

energies into a powerful presence to lead, heal and

Jane Stark:

inspire. We love exploring the shadowed edges of life, the

Jane Stark:

universe and beyond through honest and thought provoking

Jane Stark:

conversations. Let's dive in.

Jen Lang:

Hi, everybody, and welcome back to another episode

Jen Lang:

of no halos here with Jen Lang and Jane Stark. Today, it's a

Jen Lang:

solo episode with me, Jen, and what Jane and I talked actually

Jen Lang:

before I hit record, so she is still recovering from her

Jen Lang:

illness. And if you listened to last week, last week's episode,

Jen Lang:

we talked about the energy of January and how it is very much

Jen Lang:

sort of an inward slower moving energy and self care type of

Jen Lang:

energy, there's not a lot of momentum, at least, you know,

Jen Lang:

generally speaking, you might be feeling quite differently

Jen Lang:

yourself. But it's been interesting for Jane because

Jen Lang:

she's been processing this illness. And she's working on

Jen Lang:

like day 15 or 16. Now, and it's been quite a journey for her

Jen Lang:

into the surrender aspect of that energy, and also trusting

Jen Lang:

what her body's signals are. And we had planned this early this

Jen Lang:

morning, we had planned to record this episode. And then as

Jen Lang:

the morning went on, and we had a couple of meetings, a couple

Jen Lang:

of conversations, we decided that she needed rest. And what I

Jen Lang:

wanted to talk about today, was trusting those signals from your

Jen Lang:

body when you need rest. This has come out of a couple of

Jen Lang:

different conversations this week, as well. And we debated

Jen Lang:

what to cover today in terms of, you know, content and what's

Jen Lang:

helpful for you, our audience, and what's meaningful, and based

Jen Lang:

on last week's episode, in terms of trusting the energy of the

Jen Lang:

month, and not jumping in and leaping into something new for

Jen Lang:

2022. It's around sitting in assessing where that energy is,

Jen Lang:

and what are the feelings that are coming up that are asking

Jen Lang:

for reflection? And what are the sensations in your body coming

Jen Lang:

up that are asking for attention. So they could be

Jen Lang:

something as simple as you get a good solid eight hours of sleep,

Jen Lang:

and you wake up and you still you're tired. Or it could be

Jen Lang:

something more complex where you know, you have achy joints, and

Jen Lang:

then you have back pain, and you have some other like jaw pain.

Jen Lang:

And this is your body literally talking to you and giving you

Jen Lang:

signals of something that needs your attention. Another aspect

Jen Lang:

of this that I want to address today is our physical body gives

Jen Lang:

us signs and symbols and signals of what needs attention. But

Jen Lang:

what often isn't clear is what that attention actually is, is

Jen Lang:

it? Is it that your physical body needs attention? Or is

Jen Lang:

there something going on in one of your other energy bodies, so

Jen Lang:

whether it's your mental, emotional, spiritual energetic

Jen Lang:

body, that is asking for attention, and quite often it's

Jen Lang:

layered. So if you only address something in the physical realm

Jen Lang:

than you and you haven't addressed it in the mental,

Jen Lang:

emotional and spiritual fields, then that chances are that

Jen Lang:

physical pain will come back in a different form or that

Jen Lang:

physical discomfort or symptom will come back in a different

Jen Lang:

form. The this is true for all of your energy layers and or all

Jen Lang:

of the levels of your different bodies. So if you have an

Jen Lang:

emotion come up that hasn't been processed, or that hasn't been

Jen Lang:

dealt with or you've stuffed down inside, then chances are

Jen Lang:

it's gonna show up in a different energy body like oh,

Jen Lang:

maybe your physical as a stuck emotion our as a persistent pain

Jen Lang:

or as a persistent physical symptom. It could be a digestive

Jen Lang:

system, it could be a reproductive, it could be

Jen Lang:

endocrine, hormonal, it could be breast pain. It's like a really

Jen Lang:

discomfort it doesn't and it might not be big, either. It

Jen Lang:

could just be like, oh, you know, I've always had this left

Jen Lang:

ankle thing. Or maybe you fell on your left ankle, and the

Jen Lang:

physical part is healed but the emotional wounding and mental

Jen Lang:

and spiritual wounding of that experience has not yet been

Jen Lang:

dealt with or transformed. So there I would ask you with this

Jen Lang:

episode today, where are you holding on to things that you

Jen Lang:

are ready to Let go of both physically, mentally,

Jen Lang:

emotionally, spiritually in any other way. And then if you have

Jen Lang:

let go or transformed something on the physical level, have you

Jen Lang:

let go with it or transformed it on all of those other bodily,

Jen Lang:

bodily three, all of those other energetic levels, whether it's

Jen Lang:

physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual?

Jen Lang:

And how do you do that? How, because you know, you can talk

Jen Lang:

to a therapist and talk through some things. But if you are have

Jen Lang:

been going to therapy for a while, and you've been well

Jen Lang:

supported, if you've gone through a process, you know,

Jen Lang:

might be very significant years of therapy, to process

Jen Lang:

experiences. But if you haven't cleared them from the rest of

Jen Lang:

your bodies, then all the talking in the world is not

Jen Lang:

going to get you to where you need to be to stop or complete

Jen Lang:

wrap up the therapy cycle. And if you maybe have been going to

Jen Lang:

a chiropractor or physiotherapist for a persistent

Jen Lang:

long term injury, but if you haven't dealt with it on a

Jen Lang:

different energy body level, then you're going to continue to

Jen Lang:

see that physiotherapist and that chiropractor or the

Jen Lang:

alternate health practitioner for that thing, until you have

Jen Lang:

resolved it in that other energy level, or the other bodily field

Jen Lang:

or level. So do you see a repeating pattern or a theme

Jen Lang:

here? Some of it, some of it is inherited from our social

Jen Lang:

structures from the way we are raised. And in the conversation

Jen Lang:

with Jane before I hit record, there, we had this moment of

Jen Lang:

looking at, you know, aspects and practices of stoicism, that

Jen Lang:

British colonists an attitude of stiff upper lip, don't let your

Jen Lang:

emotions show stuff them down inside. It's especially that it

Jen Lang:

can go as far as toxic masculinity where men aren't

Jen Lang:

given a safe men and boys aren't given necessarily or haven't

Jen Lang:

been given, some of them are, haven't been given a safe avenue

Jen Lang:

to express emotion. And therefore it results in physical

Jen Lang:

complications later on in life, or it might result in awkward

Jen Lang:

partnerships or relationships later on in life. So all of this

Jen Lang:

to say that what we have inherited from our both our

Jen Lang:

ancestry and what is portrayed for us and our current social

Jen Lang:

constructs, both in film, media, television, and to a certain

Jen Lang:

extent in conversations, expectations of family doesn't

Jen Lang:

always lead to a place of healing. In fact, I would say

Jen Lang:

that it hampers or stifles the transformation that you might

Jen Lang:

actually be seeking. And it operates on such an unconscious

Jen Lang:

level that you might not even realize, realize it where it

Jen Lang:

plays out on the mental level is in the words and the dialogue

Jen Lang:

that you might have with yourself. And so I'd look at the

Jen Lang:

difference between I am tired, versus I feel tired. So if you

Jen Lang:

say you are tired, then you are perpetuating the pattern of

Jen Lang:

fatigue. And you're taking on the fact that you are tired, and

Jen Lang:

you are reinforcing that message in your mental brain. And then

Jen Lang:

it's filtering through the rest of your body's energy bodies

Jen Lang:

physical, mental, emotional, spiritual. If you say I feel

Jen Lang:

tired, you may be white want to identify that even more fully

Jen Lang:

saying My body feels tired today. However I feel mentally

Jen Lang:

and emotionally alert and aware. This is why it's really helpful

Jen Lang:

to have morning practices, or maybe midday check ins around

Jen Lang:

all of these different areas of your life. So they have been a

Jen Lang:

part of my spiritual practice my morning spiritual practice, I'd

Jen Lang:

say for the past four years, where I check in with my

Jen Lang:

physical and mental, emotional, spiritual bodies. And then I

Jen Lang:

check in with the fifth like the quintessence I usually pull a

Jen Lang:

card for that guidance, to check in with the higher self, the

Jen Lang:

whole soul self. And when we start to break down that

Jen Lang:

practice into the physical, mental, emotional spiritual, we

Jen Lang:

are given the opportunity to really sit in presence with that

Jen Lang:

aspect of self. So then when we sit with that aspect of self, we

Jen Lang:

can start to get to know that aspect of self a little bit

Jen Lang:

differently. And so what is my mental body saying today? Well,

Jen Lang:

my mental, my mental self is quite alert. And I my ideas are

Jen Lang:

on fire and I'm making lots of synaptic connections and I feel

Jen Lang:

really excited about pulling together these seemingly

Jen Lang:

unrelated threads into a coherent conversation to then be

Jen Lang:

broadcast on this podcast. At the same time, my physical body

Jen Lang:

feels a little bit tired today. However, I did have a great

Jen Lang:

night's sleep. So my physical body doesn't feel like it's

Jen Lang:

sore. Or like I can't do something. However, I have had

Jen Lang:

other days where I felt more energized. So do you see when we

Jen Lang:

get into this distinction? Oh, and actually I can reference

Jen Lang:

this morning, I woke up and felt emotionally I felt inexplicably

Jen Lang:

sad. And I didn't know what that sadness was about. I know, I

Jen Lang:

just felt emotionally off. So when I checked in with my

Jen Lang:

emotional self, I was like, Why am I feeling this sadness? So

Jen Lang:

that led to a deeper reflection point around a choice I had made

Jen Lang:

yesterday as decision I made a split second, to do a rehearsal

Jen Lang:

to meet tomorrow. And I didn't feel I woke up this morning

Jen Lang:

going, Why did I do that? Why don't I put that pressure on

Jen Lang:

myself. And to that the emotional feeling of sadness

Jen Lang:

was, that's what old Jen would have done. Old Jen would have

Jen Lang:

tried to fit it in, tried to smash in crushing some rehearsal

Jen Lang:

time to practice so that we'll be ready for tomorrow's meeting

Jen Lang:

tomorrow's rehearsal in a more fulfilled way. However, when I'm

Jen Lang:

practicing that, then I'm practicing those feelings into

Jen Lang:

the music and into that experience, so that when I

Jen Lang:

perform it, I'm performing with that underlying pressure, rather

Jen Lang:

than coming at the music from a place of spaciousness and joy,

Jen Lang:

and expansiveness. So do you see how checking in with each of

Jen Lang:

these bodies can lead us to better decision making on a day

Jen Lang:

to day basis. So based on that realization, I had this morning,

Jen Lang:

this sadness, I was feeling identified, it identified why I

Jen Lang:

took action. And I said, Actually, I can't meet tomorrow

Jen Lang:

is there another date and time and we agreed on a different

Jen Lang:

date and time, that gives me lots of spaciousness and time to

Jen Lang:

approach the music from a place of meaningfulness. So this

Jen Lang:

spaciousness place is really where we want to approach so

Jen Lang:

much of our lives from. And when we are constantly busy, or

Jen Lang:

ignoring or numbing or scrolling, or doing all the

Jen Lang:

things, all the activities that keep us from actually looking at

Jen Lang:

all of those different aspects of self, then we do ourselves a

Jen Lang:

disservice. And we actually, we, when we, and when we shift that

Jen Lang:

behavior, to looking into aspects of self, more completely

Jen Lang:

than sometimes it's surface, sometimes it's like, my body

Jen Lang:

feels great today. And thanks very much, I'm going to do some

Jen Lang:

yoga, and I'm gonna go for a run and you know, whatever. But

Jen Lang:

sometimes being granular in looking at each of those aspects

Jen Lang:

of self, the physical, the mental, the emotional, the

Jen Lang:

spiritual, and the overall spiritual, that Quintessence

Jen Lang:

self, then we are able to be more in tune, then we can make

Jen Lang:

better decisions on a day to day basis that actually serve the

Jen Lang:

development on the spaciousness and the expansiveness of self.

Jen Lang:

So, yes, meditation is great. And yes, physical exercise is

Jen Lang:

wonderful. And I would argue that this time, and literally,

Jen Lang:

this takes me five minutes, it doesn't even take that long, on

Jen Lang:

a daily basis, setting aside that five minutes to check in

Jen Lang:

with the self and go, Oh, I can make this decision today based

Jen Lang:

on that. And I can make this decision today based on that. In

Jen Lang:

valuable, you'll live your life from a more aligned place,

Jen Lang:

you'll find it easier to move through your day, because you've

Jen Lang:

made decisions in alignment with where you're at.

Jen Lang:

Now, if you're stuck in a pattern, I want to address this

Jen Lang:

briefly. If you're stuck in a pattern of say, fatigue, and

Jen Lang:

tiredness, and say you're tired all the time, and you wake up

Jen Lang:

feeling tired. Well, if you're telling yourself that every day,

Jen Lang:

then you're going to perpetuate that pattern and that rhythm

Jen Lang:

every day. So maybe you decide tomorrow to wake up and say

Jen Lang:

something different to yourself and say, Okay, I acknowledge

Jen Lang:

that I have been feeling tired. However, I'm doing all the

Jen Lang:

things I knew I need to do to be rested. I am taking care of

Jen Lang:

myself. And today I feel a bit more energy than I have in the

Jen Lang:

past and start to shift the dialogue around I'm always

Jen Lang:

tired. I'm always tired. I'm always tired, too. I'm getting

Jen Lang:

better. I feel more energy. And it doesn't have to be you go

Jen Lang:

from the bottom of the ladder to the top of the ladder and one

Jen Lang:

day, it might be one step at a time. So then the next day you

Jen Lang:

wake up and say Hmm, wow, you know, I had a really busy day

Jen Lang:

yesterday, but today I feel rested and ready for the day.

Jen Lang:

And the next day might be oh, you know I had An awesome day

Jen Lang:

yesterday and building on the energy of the last couple of

Jen Lang:

days, I'm feeling ready to approach my day with joy, and

Jen Lang:

with more gratitude than I have in the past. And yeah, my, my

Jen Lang:

feet might feel a little bit tired. But that's just my eyes,

Jen Lang:

the rest of me feels great. So you see when we start to refine

Jen Lang:

and pull in and observe more accurately or more, with more

Jen Lang:

detail, the aspects of self, how that can lead to better decision

Jen Lang:

making, and then it changes the pattern that you might be stuck

Jen Lang:

in. Okay, I'm gonna leave it here. However, if you want to

Jen Lang:

dive into this more for yourself, Jane and I have an

Jen Lang:

awesome tool called the empowerment playbook. I'll put

Jen Lang:

the link in the show notes. But it is available I believe the

Jen Lang:

link is we are Jen and jane.com. Forward slash empowerment

Jen Lang:

playbook, or actually, I think just Ford slash playbook. I'll

Jen Lang:

double check the show notes for that. The other thing I wanted

Jen Lang:

to share with you is this is going out on Tuesday, the 18th.

Jen Lang:

If you want to talk about this a little bit more, and actually

Jen Lang:

meet us face to face. We have a community call on Wednesday, the

Jen Lang:

19th at noon, Pacific Time, that is 3pm, Eastern and 8pm in the

Jen Lang:

Jen Lang:

things, then you're invited to the call. And all you need to do

Jen Lang:

is actually just download the empowerment playbook. And you'll

Jen Lang:

get the reminder emails and the link to join the call. So we

Jen Lang:

hope to see you there. And yeah, we're also working on some

Jen Lang:

really cool projects. I'm going to drop a few nuggets here more

Jen Lang:

details will be forthcoming. We are opening a small group

Jen Lang:

program over a six week period, we start the second week of

Jen Lang:

February and it's called fierce serenity. So how can you

Jen Lang:

Jen Lang:

more, definitely keep listening to the podcast and follow us on
